Technology & SCAs [Yes, we can be friends.]
Why Tech Efficiency Collaboration Communication Outreach etc. To be honest, I wanted to just place “duh” on this slide. Not too imply that it’s easy, but rather that technology is so prevalent and pervasive that it’s kind of hard to miss. Perhaps difficult to connect with or figure out how to connect with.
Examples of SCA Tech Website (same provider as ASCA: Timberlake so consider cost vs. benefits) Facebook Twitter ASCA Scene Webinars (Adobe Connect) Here are some of the examples that we as an SCA have been using.
Examples of SCA Tech GoToMeeting (when in doubt can revert to conference call) Old fashioned mass email (connecting with OSPI) Online Journal Survey Monkey Dropbox Here are some of the examples that we as an SCA have been using.
Lessons Learned Pace matters. Don’t sprint and tire out. Find a pace that works for you and go for that; build from that Your virtual face/reputation is just as important as your “real” one Overarching ideas/lessons learned. Some of these may seem rather obvious to you and if so great. For us as an organization, even though some of these may have been rather obvious, for us it was also the matter of how to address these things in terms of the SCA rather than just an individual PSC or as a school.
Lessons Learned Establish a point person for the technology used Competency & Passion Multiple people: have structure in place for actions and decision-making (even mundane site updating) Use the tech as a marketing/communication tool Create/generate momentum for events & information Upcoming conference (I Pavlov) Regarding momentum: i.e. upcoming conference – info posted on association website so reminder emails point to site, Facebook has info but points to site, Twitter feed points to site, etc. Behavioral training for members/users to get into the habit of going to your site
Lessons Learned Keep SCA goals (i.e. ends policies, goals, action items, etc.) in mind at all times. Don’t delegate technology to the sidelines as something to get around to. How can technology assist and further your association’s goals? For me this one has been the most important for myself as well as observing our actions as an SCA. This points to: the previous point about pace, the sometimes limited resources we have, as well as momentum Where are the places we can align technology with the ends policies we have designated as our focus?
Sharing is Caring What tech has and hasn’t worked for your SCA? Why? (no war stories please) What are some examples of connecting tech with your SCA goals (i.e. ends policies, goals, action items, etc.)
