Variable = anything that can change or vary in an experiment.

Variables Vocabulary

Variable Notes on page 41: A factor in an experiment that changes or could be changed. Example: Wings folded or not folded on helicopter Spin of the helicopter

Independent Variable The variable that is changed on purpose. Example: Ways the wings were folded.

Dependent Variable The variable that responds to the independent variable Example: Spin of the helicopter. Clockwise or counter-clockwise

Control The standard for comparison in an experiment, the independent variable is not applied to control group. Example: Helicopter without wings folded back.

Constant A factor in an experiment that is kept the same in all trials Example: Same person drop the helicopter from the same height each trial.

Repeated Trials The number of times an experiment is repeated for each value of the independent variable. Write in your own words.
