Importance of Cultural Immersion You will become enrolled in the host country university. You will have to abide by all host universities’ rules and policies. You will engage with host community and enhance language skills. You will write reflections about your time abroad.

Things You Need To Consider Before You Go Support Services & Study Abroad Counseling Services Specific Medical Support Disabilities Support Services Student Support and Wellness Promotion Be aware Loyola support services may not be available in the program you select. So check with your program director to see what services are available. Accommodations and services are very different from what is in place in the US. Training and techniques of counselors will vary as well Some medications or treatments might be illegal abroad If seeking any of these support services here at Loyola or off campus, please discuss with those offices/departments that you are going abroad and steps be taken to make sure you get support needed while abroad Accommodation requests must be presented to us through our Office of Disabilities Support Services

Costs are Associated with Study Abroad: Pay Loyola tuition (except affiliation) Pay housing cost to Loyola or abroad/Affiliation partner (check specific program) Pay Loyola deposit Pay Loyola program fees (subject to change) Loyola financial aid can be used (except affiliation & external opportunities) Programs varies greatly in what they include. * Work Study Beneficiaries who study abroad for one semester forfeit their work study eligibility for the entire year. * Students who receive Veterans Benefits follow specific rules that must be reviewed by Loyola’s Financial Aid Office (contact our Records Office BEFORE you apply)

Resources provided by OIP before you apply Course equivalencies (OIP website) Program information sessions Study Abroad Ambassadors (OIP website) Pre-registration sessions (SARA Sessions) October 22 and 23 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm in McGuire Hall - Learn if your major/courses are compatible with your desired program. - Information sessions: Only sophomores can sign in -In order to get access to the Study abroad application, you must attend an Information Session. -Be sure you sign in with your name and ID number before leaving the Info Session -Dates, times and locations will be posted on the Office of International Program’s website

What is expected of you: You must investigate and understand your program choices (academics/cost/benefits/support services/financial aid, etc.). You must attend all required meetings. You must submit all required forms and documents on time. You will be our main point of contact for all communications. You must read your emails to keep abreast of all the information you will receive.

PROGRAM DECISION Most Programs have Caps When you apply, you will be asked to indicate your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice (most programs have caps!) When you apply, you will also be asked if you want to be considered for the “Fall”, “Spring”, or “Yearlong” Students interested in studying abroad for a full year in 2 different locations must indicate this request on their application in order to be considered. Courses must work in all three of your options! -You will be considered only for the options that you indicate on your application. -If you pick three popular programs, you may not get your first, second or possibly your third choice -A program’s popularity varies year to year, depending on the number of applicants and their GPAs

Four Selection Criteria Minimum cumulative GPA requirement: 2.75. Some programs require a higher GPA. Your disciplinary record is evaluated as a part of your application. We check twice: when you apply and just before you leave for abroad. Any history of serious disciplinary problems may prevent you from going abroad. Course availability: You must find enough courses abroad for your degree program to ensure that you will graduate on time. Essay Interview/Academic Interview: For the application, you must answer an essay question, and your answer will be discussed in your academic interview. You will also have to answer additional questions during your academic interview.

Step 1 Attend an Information Session by Monday, December 3, 2018 *make sure to write your name and ID# on the sign up sheet neatly* Step 2 Fill out the online application on time! *Application links are on the International Program website: - www.loyola.edu/international>Where to Go **The application closes at 11:59 pm, Wednesday, December 5, 2018. Applications will not be received after this time.

How to Apply 1. Visit the Office of International Programs’ website: www.loyola.edu/international. 2. Click on the “Where to Go” tab. 3. Read about your desired programs. 4. When you have decided on your top choice, click on the “Apply to this Program” button for that program. 5. You will be taken to the application on the Terra Dotta website.

Create a Terra Dotta Account Select you have a Loyola username and password. Enter your Loyola login credentials for your email/InsideLoyola.

Select your preferred term Select the program term you are applying for.

Application Questions Answer the following questions then click save.

Application Homepage You must complete all items with a check box. All boxes must be checked in order to submit an application.

Required Signature Documents You must sign the Information Session Confirmation confirming you attended an Information Session and the Disciplinary Confirmation Acknowledgement.

2. Essay Upload your 800-1500 word essay in the form of a Word document or PDF.

3. Academic Planning Form If you are applying for one semester, you must list a minimum of 5 courses you plan to take abroad. If you are applying for a full year program or two semesters, you must list a minimum of 10 courses you plan to take abroad.

Submit Application Select the submit application button located at the top of the page when all boxes are checked. When your application has been successfully submitted, you will receive the following green message at the top of the page.

Submit Application All application MUST be submitted by 11:59 pm on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. At midnight on December 5, the application will close and you will no longer be able to submit applications. Plan ahead! The 800-1500 word essay will take time to complete so do not wait until the last minute to apply.
