The Writing Mentor Flyer Part of your ENG 101 Semester Portfolio “One must be drenched in words, literally soaked in them, to have the right ones form themselves into the proper patterns at the right moment.” Hart Crane, American Poet (1899-1932)

Throughout the semester you have explored the writing of your mentor Throughout the semester you have explored the writing of your mentor. Now it is your chance to show off what you learned form your writer and sell him/her to future students so they too can gain critical composition knowledge from your author!

What is the purpose of your flyer? To highlight the topics your writer covers. Provide a sample of your author’s writing. Give a quick snapshot of your author’s career and highlights so future students can know if the writer will interest him/her.

Your Requirements

Include the following on the front: Two quotes/reviews about your author’s writing A brief bio Five common subjects/themes your writer covers Images of books or journals or newspapers or blogs your writer contributes to. Complete: My writer is . . . Complete: My writer is like OR unlike . . . Complete: As I read about him, I thought . . .

Include your process analysis writing mentor activity: One short paragraph explaining how to write like your mentor in three short steps! Be clear and show you truly understand what makes your writer tick! Choose a passage or excerpt of your writer’s work! If your has edgy topics – be sure what you choose is one hundred percent appropriate!

A Few Hints . . . Aim to be aesthetically pleasing! Remember – your goal is to get others to pick your writer! Cite anything that you take directly from another location! You can just put the web address! Be creative! Remember to focus only on the nonfiction! Try using templates in Microsoft Word to create your flyer! You can also use a power point slide! Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com often include critiques of writers within the same location you can purchase books written by that author!
