Ben Izzard + Tyrone Muhammad Doublethink Ben Izzard + Tyrone Muhammad

Definition Doublethink is the act of ordinary people simultaneously accepting two contradictory beliefs as correct, often in distinct social contexts. Doublethink can be linked to examples within our own society.

Novel Examples Oceania is continually at war with either Eurasia or Eastasia The names of the party’s four ministries (each party contradicts its name) : Ministry of Plenty – oversees shortages of resources Ministry of Peace – declares and conducts war Ministry of Love – doles out cruel, harsh punishments/torture Ministry of Truth – spreads propaganda and revises historical facts

Examples in our Society Santa Clause - We know that Santa Clause doesn’t exist, however we share of his existence to young children. Adolf Hitler’s Reign of the German Empire – Hitler attempted to convey himself as a savior to the people of Germany, however, killed millions of innocent people in the process.
