1. What are goals ? Dreams with deadlines Goals are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely skills or events that we want to learn or achieve.

2. Is this a GED class No, it’s an Adult Basic Education class, level 33. The second class in a series of five that are geared to prepare you to pass the GED math test, and to improve your TABE score so you can move to a higher level class.

3. How does CLC place a student in this class? TABE score

Can you eat in this class? Yes, within reason. Snacks, soft drinks, sandwich, as long as you use paper towels from the washroom and clean up after yourself. If you don’t, you will lose this privilege.

How can a student move up to a higher level class? Attend class for 40 hours, retake the TABE and score at a higher level.

6. Why do we have a class web site? To find information about class To find links to web sites that have online learning

7. Can students use computer labs here at CLC? Yes, CLC has computer labs in the basement of the 1 N. Genesee building that are available during the daytime and at night. You need a student ID card to be able to print, and a CLC e-mail address and password to sign in.

8. Where else can a student access a computer? At any public library in the state

9. What subjects will we be working on in this class? Math, including basic math, division review, understanding word problems, solving multiple step word problems, learning about place value, rounding, estimation fractions basic geometry, statistics, graphs introduction to per cents (time permitting) Basic pre-algebra Test-taking skills

11. When is our last day of class? June 29

12. When is the teacher here after class to help or answer questions? Wednesdays 11:20-12:00 , longer, if needed for extra help for students who are in class, on time, complete homework, and want to learn.

13. What can you do with a CLC ID card? Use it when you register Use it to check out books from the CLC library Use it when you purchase tickets for plays and concerts

Will students have to pay to take a practice test? GED Ready™: The Official Practice Test is available for a fee – $4-6.00. It is also available through MyGED™ at GED.com. Are there free online practice tests? GED Testing Service offers a free practice test on their site at http://www.gedtestingservice.com/educators/freepracticetest.

16. Which days and times do we have class? Wednesdays, 8am-11:20 pm If you miss more than 30 minutes of class you will be marked absent. If you are absent more than 2 days you will be dropped. No exceptions. Our class only meets 6 times.

17. Will we have homework? Why? Yes, so we can practice what we learn in class.

18. How many tutors do we have and who are they? One tutor, Ms. Diana

19. How can you take charge of your own learning? Regular and on time class attendance Homework completion Setting goals that are realistic, specific, and measurable Asking for help if you don’t understand something we are working on in class Making sure you bring your folders and other materials to class Set aside time at home to use online learning programs.

20. Why do you need a CLC e-mail address? Your CLC e-mail address is how the college communicates with you. It is the e-mail address that is connected to your roster. It is how I will communicate with you most often. I also use your cell phone, so make sure you let me know if it changes. It is how you gain access to the CLC system, registration, and communication.
