Education Feedback Survey Principal Ready

Purpose Gather critical feedback from teachers, principals, and district staff on the implementation of key education reforms NCDPI will use these data to empower state- and district-level leaders to make critical decisions about the supports needed by teachers and principals to implement key education reforms. Empirical as apposed to anecdotal data on how educators are supported with the implementation of education reforms

Big Picture Westat, a leading measurement firm, will work with several states to conduct state-level studies that will measure the impact, sustainability, quality and scale of implementation in four areas: High academic standards and aligned assessments; Robust teacher feedback and evaluation; Improved teacher development; and Personalized learning opportunities for students.

As a result of this work, states will be able to: Assess overall implementation progress Compare progress across types of districts (e.g., rural, suburban, urban) Compare what each state is finding with what other participating states are seeing Share best practices and new ideas Monitor implementation progress over time

Who is involved? This project will seek input from a representative sample of North Carolina teachers, principals, and district staff Not all educators in NC will be surveyed Teachers, Principals, and District personnel will complete surveys District personnel are asked to upload curricular resources

Your teachers may get an email like this Dear Teacher, Please complete the education feedback survey as soon as possible – your feedback is very important. You were selected to participate in this survey to share your experiences with the implementation of college-ready standards, teacher professional development programs, teacher evaluation systems (NCEES), and personalized learning for students. The data collected will empower state- and district-level leaders to make critical decisions about the supports needed by teachers and principals to implement key education reforms. To complete the survey, go to www.educationfeedback.org and log in using the credentials below.      Username: turner_900      Password: 8edfxxaa The survey should take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Please complete the survey no later than Friday, October 23rd. Westat, the feedback survey administrator, is offering you a $10 Amazon gift card to thank you in advance for your time and participation. Don’t forget to claim your free gift card upon logging in. The link will expire at the end of the survey period. Please contact the Implementation Feedback Study Help Desk at educationfeedback@westat.com with any questions you may have. Thank you, Thomas R. Tomberlin Director, District Human Resources Academic Services and Instructional Support ncedsurvey@dpi.nc.gov Teachers will receive a Target gift card for their time!!!!

Privacy This project takes data privacy very seriously. The project will share results at the aggregate level without identifying participants or their schools No individual-level teacher and student performance data will be collected, which gives confidence that teachers’ and students’ information is protected. Westat, a Maryland-based research company, will be managing the data collection efforts

Data Collection Activities Survey Instruments Teacher (primary instructor for a course) Focuses on the experiences with the implementation of state standards, teacher development, teacher evaluation, personalized learning, and digital learning Principal (school/building principal)

Data Collection Activities Survey Instruments LEA Staff - Opinion (administrators and staff who work in the district office) Focuses on the experiences with the implementation of state standards, teacher development, and teacher evaluation in their state/district LEA Staff – Policy (designated administrators based on role in district office) Focuses on the design characteristics of policies related to state standards, teacher development, teacher evaluation, personalized and digital learning

Where we are? NC had one cycle of surveys in which educators were sampled. We need to get participation rates up 1,379 teachers participated Another 213 took the incentive, but did not complete the survey We paid out $33,700 in incentives to educators in NC

1- Not at all Confident 2- Somewhat Confident 3- Confident 4- Very Confident

Where are we trying to go? We would like to have concrete empirical data to help guide decisions in NC Educators will get instant results on how their answers compare to other educators in the state

What are the possibilities?

Sampling versus Census Teachers receive a gift card for participating Quicker Less likely teachers will see their results Used primarily at the state level Instant comparisons to other teachers Schools and LEAs can use data to make decisions

Sampling or census
