Key Stage 1 - Year 1 Phonics Introduced in 2012 Statutory screening check for year one pupils. Designed to “check” if a child has met the required standard in synthetic phonics understanding. Pupils who did not meet the required standard in year one will retake a similar test in Year 2. The test comprised of 40 “words” for the pupils to decode.
