Section 1.1- The cell is the basic unit of living things Mrs. Leos

Bell Work List characteristics that a flower, a puppy, a house, and a cup of water have in common and ways they are different. READY…..SET…..GO!!!!

All four respond to their environment House has a thermostat Water can freeze or vaporize. Puppy and flower can grow, develop, and reproduce.

Living things have four characteristics Organization The ability to develop and grow The ability to respond to the environment The ability to reproduce

All living things are made of cells Unicellular Made of a SINGLE cell To small to see directly Multicellular Made of many cells Organisms you can see

All living things are made of cells The cell is the smallest unit that performs the activities of life. Multicellular organisms have different types of cells working together. In a unicellular organism a single cell carries out all the activities of life.

The Cell Theory Every living things is made up of one or more cells. Cells carry out the functions needed to support life. Cells come only from other living cells.

Let’s make sense of this…. On the left side of your notebook Demonstrate your understanding Write a 5-7 sentences summary SHOW MRS. LEOS WHEN YOUR DONE!!!!
