Dr. Chung-Hao Chen (ECE) VEX U Robotics Status Report 2 March 28, 2016 Dr. Chung-Hao Chen (ECE) Dr. Gene Hou (MAE) Allan Cahill Timothy Clarke Michael Darnell Andrew Dearhart Darryl Sampson Richard Stinson

Completed Work

Programming Skills Challenge Improved old score to place 1st in the world out of 50 teams that attempted the programming skills challenge Received invitation to the 2016 VEX U World Championships (1 of 60 attending) All points were scored with a single robot, using a logarithmic spiral cam

Request for Funds Registered for the world championships thanks to the help and generosity of Dr. Bawab and Dr. Khan Applied for a contingency request through the SGA for travel costs Applied for individual travel grants through the SEES office Purchased new parts for proposed designs with the remaining funds in the senior design budget, SGA budget, and team members pockets

Proposed Work

Robot Builds Design and build a total of four (4) robots Trying to be competitive in both the programming skills challenge and normal tournament matches Two robots will be used exclusively for the skills challenges, to improve our previous score and place 1st at the world championships Two robots will be used for the tournament matches, able to score a large sum of points fast and consistently

Competition Small Robot Will use a pneumatic piston to launch entire stacks of game objects into the net at a single time Fast, mobile drive system to cover the entire field in a few seconds to score as many points as possible, as fast as possible

Competition Large Robot Modified from the old large robot Single horizontal axis of rotation flywheel for more consistent shots at any range Small version of the cam launcher mounted to the back to score all of the driver control loads in under 30 seconds Used to take full 75 seconds

Skills Challenge Robots Large Robot Modified from current cam launcher robot Larger chassis with second cam mechanism mounted to it 12” high platform built onto robot for a high lift Small robot Latches on to large robot as it drives across Lifts itself onto the 12” platform for 50 points
