Tips for Timed Writing PLAN your 75 minutes THINK FIRST, THEN WRITE 15 minutes for reading and rereading, annotating, underlining, formulating responses, and reacting 5-10 minutes to outline your essay 40-45 minutes to write 5-10 minutes to edit and check your essay against the rubric THINK FIRST, THEN WRITE Tips for Timed Writing

Keep in Mind Summary-response essays are mostly YOUR response. Good summaries do not necessarily present everything the author says or present the info in the same order Be wary of newspaper articles that start with personal stories as hooks Thesis with your reaction must be clear! Quotes from the article must prove your claims; they can’t substitute for your claims. (Quote sandwich!) Keep in Mind

Top Grammar Issues to Check Fragments Examples and dependent clauses Comma splices and run-ons Don’t start sentences with FANBOYS 3rd-person singular –s in simple present (S/V agreement) Past events must be in the past or present perfect Singular count nouns preceded by a/an/the, number, or possessive pronoun.
