Guidelines for IEEE-SA Meetings All IEEE-SA standards meetings shall be conducted in compliance with all applicable laws, including antitrust and competition laws. Don’t discuss the interpretation, validity, or essentiality of patents/patent claims. Don’t discuss specific license rates, terms, or conditions. Relative costs, including licensing costs of essential patent claims, of different technical approaches may be discussed in standards development meetings. Technical considerations remain primary focus Don’t discuss or engage in the fixing of product prices, allocation of customers, or division of sales markets. Don’t discuss the status or substance of ongoing or threatened litigation. Don’t be silent if inappropriate topics are discussed… do formally object. --------------------------------------------------------------- If you have questions, contact the IEEE-SA Standards Board Patent Committee Administrator at patcom@ieee.org or visit http://standards.ieee.org/about/sasb/patcom/index.html See IEEE-SA Standards Board Operations Manual, clause 5.3.10 and “Promoting Competition and Innovation: What You Need to Know about the IEEE Standards Association's Antitrust and Competition Policy” for more details. Monday: 802.24 TAG Approve March minutes TAG Action Items from March: 24-17-0009-00-0000 TAG Action Items from March: Wael: Initiate Liaison with Wi-Fi Alliance IoT TG Tim– plan additional meeting slot for 24.2 in Berlin to discuss the P2413 draft. Follow up by email to 24.2 leadership: Invite automotive tutorial team to participate. Tim: Wireless Matrix: Coordinate with 802.11 to find spectral efficiency details Tim Godfrey, EPRI
Related IEEE activities Coordination with Industry Connections: Regularly examine (or liaison with) IC Committee to determine if we want to be involved with any existing IC activities. Plan of action: Check in by email regularly (before plenary meetings) on status with the IC Committee IEEE Smart Grid Technical Activities group Establish membership – evaluate whether formal or informal liaison is appropriate Tim Godfrey, EPRI
Publicizing White Paper Releases Develop procedure for back end of white papers – coordinate with Jonathan Goldberg Action to take up in July – propose a draft process, and get agreement from IEEE Press Releases Standards association newsletter External press releases Emulate what 802.1, 802.3 are doing External publications, conferences, etc Liaison reports to WGs Include relevant details from external liaisons Expand liaisons to 802.1 and 802.3 Tim Godfrey, EPRI
Monday 802.24.1 Smart Grid TG Tim Godfrey, EPRI
ITU and Radio Regulatory Items No regulatory items related to 802.24 currently known. Discussion Should there be new bands with new types of licensing models? Would be a good question for 802.18 to discuss. Tim Godfrey, EPRI
Finalize PAP2 Wireless Matrix Current Status: Latest version 802.24-17-0004r4 SEPA/SGIP Study Group has been formed for Matrix update 802.24 will provide updated data for 802 standards Will reach out to other standards’ contributors for any updates Ultimately, will be forwarded to NIST as an updated addendum to NISTIR 7761 r1 Tim Godfrey, EPRI
Update Plan Owners for updating (in coordination with WGs) 802.16 column Tim Godfrey, Harry Bims (completed) 802.11ah Yongho delegated to Alfred Asterjadhi (completed) Question identified about spectrum efficiency to be investigated Osama 802.15.4 column (Ruben Salazar) Done Added column for 802.15.4 HRP-UWB 802.22 – Column received from Apurva incorporated into 24-17-0004r2 Completed Tim Godfrey, EPRI
Notes on Editing Y23: Need to determine spectral efficiency and formula Assigned to Osama Aboul Magd in 802.11 Need to verify peak vs channel (MAC) data rates for 802.15.4 and 802.22 columns Clint P, Apurva M Tim Godfrey, EPRI

Future Opportunities Tracking Tim Godfrey, EPRI
Future Opportunities Tracking (1) 802.24 white paper on IoT and P2413? Maybe more towards completion of P2413? Agnostic to underlying communications, but applicable to all 802 standards. Highlight the relationship between P2413 and 802 standards. Tim Godfrey, EPRI
Future Opportunities Tracking (2) 802.15.12 ULI Eventually, we can explain how it relates to the rest of 802, and better integration. Well defined ways of integrating. Take this up when there is a draft 802.15.4s SMR – spectrum management resources Can 802.24 provide an input with respect to Smart Grid or IoT? IEC 65C WG 17 dealing with coexistence management and spectrum policy ETSI TCRRS reconfigurable radio systems ETSI TCERM WG 41 – defining a central coordination point to handle spectrum. Sharing and increasing coexistence and providing better QoS Coordinate with 802.22.3 Action Plan: Coordinate with ULI initiative 4s resource management is defined, but now how they are used White paper could cover how adaptation and resource management are accomplished. Including use of metrics for management. Tim Godfrey, EPRI
Future Opportunities Tracking (3) Are there any new utility industry activities or organizations that could benefit from a liaison to 802.24? Useful Output: Identify the use cases that the standards serve, and provide them to the industry. That can then define who is an appropriate liaison Need to educate and inform liaisons to gather needs and requirements with respect to IEEE 802 projects. Identify the tools we have available, and present the available toolbox. Tim Godfrey, EPRI
Future Opportunities Tracking (4) March 2017 Discussion on 802.15 IG DEP Explore collaboration with 802.3 Explore collaboration with 802.11 Consider Licensed spectrum. Tim Godfrey, EPRI
Other Future Opportunities Monitor the LPWAN IG in 802.15 to see where it goes (and links to IETF) Tim Godfrey, EPRI
Tuesday 802.24.2 Smart Grid TG TSN Working Session Tim Godfrey, EPRI
802.24 White paper on TSN Ethernet operation to provide time bounded or deterministic services. How can this be applied in utility applications? Substation networks Interconnection between LAN and WAN The requirement comes from specific applications: Starting point was Audio/Video, and industrial automation, and now entering automotive Now the TSN capability is application agnostic Automotive is an emerging application – replace CAN, Flexray, etc. There is also ring topology for redundancy Questions: Is utility protection application considered for TSN? Today there is some use of proprietary real-time Ethernet variants. GOOSE protocols Synchrophasor applications Tim Godfrey, EPRI
Outline of TSN white paper Version after March 2017 is 802.24-17-0006r1 Tim Godfrey, EPRI
Plans for TSN white paper IEC TC 57 Collaboration TSN specified in 61850 through IEC IPV6 is also being adopted into 61850 OPC Foundation, ODBA are adopting TSN (and also use 61850) IEC TC57 is developing profiles for use of TSN. Profiles for application domains. Tim Godfrey, EPRI
