Why develop your teams It’s rewarding! Leadership is all about making a difference in the lives of others When you develop employees, they become smarter, more productive, higher performers
Coaching, the best way to develop your employee Coaching takes an “Ask vs. Tell” approach. Don’t tell the employee what to do, instead ask powerful questions. Coaching focuses on the employee vs. the task. It’s about their development. Coaching is something that can/should happen as needed, which is best way for learning to occur. Reinforce classroom learning through on-the-job learning experience. Creating meaningful development Share your own stories and lessons learned, this will teach and guide your employees. Don’t assume you know. Ask your employee what is meaningful to him/her, what are their goals and aspirations. Talking to your employees about their development increases employee engagement. Check in on employees’ priorities, discuss changes needed and share insights (what to continue and to consider). Build their network. Managers are often in a position to make introductions, open doors, and connect employees to role models, experts, and mentors. Giving stretch assignments are hands down the best way to learn and develop. It’s about picking the right developmental assignment for the person. © 2017 General Electric Company - All rights reserved
