Expanded metal lath

Understand applications and methods of fixing emi

Aims: Objectives: Expanded metal lath Introduction to Expanded Metal Lath (EML) Objectives: To identify EML areas of use and how it is fixed in place

What do you know? Expanded metal lath What is EML? Introduction What do you know? What is EML? What is EML made from? How is EML fixed? How do we cut EML? What size horizontal laps are required when fixing EML? What is rib lath?

What is EML? Expanded metal lath EML is used as a mechanical key for plaster and render. This may be because of the versatility of EML for use internally and externally to form abstract shapes, or because there is not a suitable bond to the background. As well as being manufactured in galvanised steel it is also made in stainless steel. Ease of cutting with tin snips also add to the versatility of EML.

Typical uses Expanded metal lath Expanded metal lath can be used a carrier for external render, in this case when a layer of insulation has been applied to the external brickwork.

Typical uses Expanded metal lath In this case the EML strips, which come in coils, have been used as a carrier for plaster covering a recessed service pipe. Also used to provide a key on timber wall plates and timber lintels.

You should now have the knowledge to complete the following: Expanded metal lath Conclusion You should now have the knowledge to complete the following: What is EML? What is EML made from?
