Networking Project By Tanya Rush Integrating Technology into the Classroom Curriculum

The goal of this project is to gain an understanding of computer networking and the associated hardware and present what I learned about networks and the issues, tasks and skills needed to create and use computer networks. WAN LAN

Lan & Wan LAN - A local area network (LAN) is a computer network that interconnects computers in a limited area such as a home, school, computer laboratory, or office building using network media computer network WAN - A Wide Area Network (WAN) is a telecommunication network that covers a broad area (i.e., any network that links across metropolitan, regional, or national boundaries).

Description of a basic LAN set up This is a short video created at Boise State University. Nelson Baquero is a graduate from BSU in the MET & K-12 Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching program. He works as the Systems Administrator & Technical Support person for the Educational Technology department. Nelson shares the basic LAN set up in the video.

WAN – Is the main building – For example: The Education building on campus. LAN – The LAN is the different offices or cubicles in the building. Router – is the traffic controller between the computers/laptop and server. The router is capable of being wired or wireless. Cable – runs from the router to the computer down or up the walls.

IP Address – Each computer has its own IP address for communication. This is similar to a social security #. One per person/one per computer. Modem – Is a link for the home network to connect to a Internet service. Switch – runs through the cable and is attached in the network. The switch allows you to know what computer is sending the message through the individual IP addresses.

To gain an understanding of computer networking and the hardware. SUCCESS IS GRANTED I have a clearer understanding of the basic LAN set up and how all the magic is created behind the scenes.
