ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING (ADN or RN) Admission

ADN PROGRAM The Associate Degree Nursing Program prepares students to sit for the NCLEX-RN in order to become Registered Nurses. ADN program is four (4) semesters long 1st semester: Nursing Practice I (9 total credit hours) 2nd semester: Medical/Surgical Nursing I & Behavioral Health Nursing (10 total credit hours) 3rd semester: Medical/Surgical Nursing II & Maternal Newborn Nursing (10 total credit hours) 4th semester: Medical/Surgical Nursing III & Pediatric Nursing (10 total credit hours)

SELECTIVE ADMISSION PROCESS Deadline for Fall Admission is March 1st and Spring Admission is July 1st Admission into the ADN program is based upon Selective Admission Process. TEAS or ACT Score Nursing GPA Completed Coursework * Preference points may be awarded to applicants with a prior Allied Health Degree involving direct patient care AND can demonstrate active employed in that field for 12 of the past 36 months.

Save the form as a Word document and send to terri.lanham@kctcs.edu *This form is your official application to the Nursing Program Submit official transcripts from universities/colleges other than KCTCS to the OCTC Office of the Registrar (Note: OCTC will only accept transfer courses as designated by the OCTC Registrar) Earn a minimum 2.75 or above Nursing GPA (Nursing GPA is determined by grades in ENG 101, MAT 150, Heritage/Humanities, PSY 110, BIO 137, BIO 139, and BIO 225.) *Nursing GPA scores below 2.75 will not be considered for admission

Prior to Admission Deadline (cont) Meet one (1) of the two (2) criteria listed below: Score an ACT Composite of 20 or above.  Official scores must be sent from OCTC or already be on file    Score “Proficient” (58.7%) or higher on the Assessment (TEAS V or ATI TEAS)  (www.atitesting.com)  Extra points may be awarded to applicants demonstrating proof of a prior Allied Health Degree involving direct patient care AND actively employed in that field for 12 of the past 36 months Submit an official transcript verifying degree completion to the Office of the Registrar Submit a letter from employer documenting verification of employment dates to the Director of Nursing at terri.lanham@kctcs.edu

Prior to First Day of Nursing Classes (required) Complete BIO 137, MAT 150 (or higher), and PSY 110 with a grade of "C" or higher in the math and science courses Obtain “Active Status” on Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry. Go to www.kbn.ky.gov to check status If you have never been a nurse aid, you may be trained at a local health care facility (that is approved for students to complete state exam) or take NAA 100 at any KCTCS institution and pass the state board exam to become a registered nurse aide Obtain BLS (Basic Life Support) certification for the Healthcare Provider with AED training (American Heart only) Attend a mandatory orientation day in August before your nursing classes begin. The date and times vary each semester but typically scheduled for the week prior to the start of classes.

DIGITAL LITERACY. Digital Literacy is a college graduation requirement DIGITAL LITERACY *Digital Literacy is a college graduation requirement. You will meet this requirement when you successfully complete the nursing program. If you withdraw and do not complete the nursing program you must demonstrate digital literacy to meet graduate requirements of any degree awarded by OCTC. (CIT 105 recommended-This requirement can also be met by the IC3 Challenge or FastTrack Exam. For more information contact the TLC at 270.686.4532. Please also check with your advisor to be sure that if you have completed digital literacy, that it falls within the required time frame and has not expired.)

Transcripts should be sent to the Office of the Registrar Please do not submit CPR or Nurse Aide documentation until after you have been admitted.

EXPENSES REQUIRED Tuition Total Nursing Curriculum Courses 38 Credit Hours: $6422.00 This does not include pre-requisite courses Student Fees: $304.00 TOTAL: $6726.00 Books/Lab Kits 1st semester: $970.00 (includes lab kit and ATI initial payment) 2nd-4th semester: $1,600.00 combined total (includes lab kits and ATI payments) Testing Plan ATI Standardized Testing package will be utilized throughout your Program to evaluate learning, retention of content and readiness for NCLEX. $825.00 divided into 4 payments and included in totals above for books NCLEX Review Final semester includes a course fee for a session: $300.00

Approximate Total Cost: $11,265.00 EXPENSES REQUIRED Uniforms & Equipment Scrubs, stethoscope, scissors, penlight, hemostats, watch with a sweeping 2nd hand etc $300.00 Liability Insurance Purchased every semester: $11.00 Criminal history report/drug screen, misc. clinical requirements $100.00 plus additional fees for physical and immunizations (if needed) Licensure Fees upon graduation $400 Approximate Total Cost: $11,265.00

THINGS TO KNOW Pre Nursing Conferences must be viewed online prior to each application cycle and new Data Report Form submitted To schedule to take the ATI TEAS assessment, please call Workforce Solutions at 270-686-4444 If unsuccessful on the TEAS, a minimum 4 week waiting period is required prior to retesting The TEAS may only be attempted a maximum of 3 times per calendar year OCTC is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and our Nursing Program is fully approved by the Kentucky Board of Nursing (www.kbn.ky.gov)

THINGS TO KNOW Check your KCTCS student e-mail accounts often All communication from the Nursing Department (including your acceptance or denial into the program) will occur via your KCTCS student e-mail account If you do not have a KCTCS account, please list an alternate e- mail address on your Data Report Form Fall Acceptance/Denial letters should be sent in early April Spring Acceptance/Denial letters should be sent in early August It is the recommendation of the Nursing Faculty at OCTC that any accepted student review their A&P content carefully as proficient knowledge of this content will be expected in all NSG courses

CRIMINAL HISTORY

TECHNICAL HISTORY Nursing at the technical level involves the provision of direct care for individuals and is characterized by the application of verified knowledge in the skillful performance of nursing functions. Therefore all students should possess: a. Sufficient visual acuity, such as needed in the accurate preparation and administration of medications, and for the observation necessary for patient assessment and nursing care. b. Sufficient auditory perception to receive verbal communication from patients and members of the health team and to assess health needs of people through the use of monitoring devices such as cardiac monitor, stethoscope, IV infusion pump, Doptone, fire alarms, etc.  c. Sufficient gross and fine motor coordination to respond promptly and to implement the skills, including the manipulation of equipment, required in meeting health needs. d. Sufficient communications skills (speech, reading, writing) to interact with individuals and to communicate their needs promptly and effectively, as may be necessary in the individual’s interest. e. Sufficient intellectual and emotional functions to plan and implement care for individuals.
