Which GENETIC DISORDER (due to defective or absent chloride ion channels) results in an abnormally high concentration of extracellular Cl- ions. This causes the mucous that coats certain cells to become thicker and stickier. Mucous builds up in their lungs, digestive tract, and other organs leading to poor absorption of nutrients, chronic bronchitis, and recurrent bacterial infections.
