The Four Kinds of Sentences

Today we are going to learn about the types of sentences. What is a sentence?

What is a sentence? A sentence is a group of words that makes sense. A sentence expresses a complete thought. A sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with a symbol. A sentence has at least one verb an action word. Example: Sam went to the store.

The Four Kinds of Sentences Statement command exclamation Question

Statement (Declarative Sentence). A statement makes a statement. It ends with a period (.). Examples: The boy is happy. The people are running.

Question(Interrogative Sentence). A Question asks about something. It ends with a question mark(?) . Examples Examples: Who is your teacher? Have you ever seen a flying fish?

Command(Imperative Sentence). A command gives an order. It ends with a period OR an exclamation point. Examples: Go to your room! Stop.

Exclamation(Exclamatory Sentence) A exclamation expresses strong feelings. It ends with an exclamation point. Examples: Hooray! Wow! That’s great news!

Four Kinds of Sentences 3. Command- (.) , (!) gives an order. 1. Statements- (.) makes a statement. 2.Questions- (?) asks a question. 4. Exclamation- (!) shows strong feeling or emotions.

Now it’s your turn! Remember . Don’t forget that a sentence always begins with a capital letter and ends with an end mark. The four kinds of sentences and don’t forget that imperative sentences can end two ways!
