Preimplantation genetic diagnosis By Andrew Steph Rachel Charley & Hannah S4

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis can also be known as embryo screening They take an egg or several eggs and fertilise sperm in a test tube.

Waht they do and Embryo Transfer They take the egg from the woman and the sperm from the man and they then after a few days do a biopsy to see all the genetic problems and then they do Embryo transfer is usually performed on day three or day five post-fertilization. Which means that they take the

Information * Since its introduction in 1990, it has been most widely used to prevent the birth of children with conditions such as Down's syndrome, Tay-Sachs disease, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell, Huntington's chorea, and Cooley's anaemia.

Pros It avoids abortions due to disease or disability. Allows couples at risk of passing a serious genetic condition to their child to avoid doing so. We would all be healthier and have pay less on NHS bills You can decide whether you want to keep it on not before you have started to produce it.

Cons To some this can been seen as murder as to some life starts at the conception and ending 90% of the Embryos life's can been seen as murder. Society starts to discriminate against those who are not genetically engineered.
