Do 1st Sheet: What do cell membranes and the bubbles you made yesterday have in common?

Today we are recovering from the “The Bubble Lab Incident of ’15 Today we are recovering from the “The Bubble Lab Incident of ’15.” (Classroom floor or soapy pool?) Here’s what will do. Ms. Y’s website Cell membrane notes Brain POP! Activity Cell membrane One-Pager and music time! Progress reports are Friday! The last day to hand in anything you want included on your progress report is Thursday! Ms. Yorkgitis, yesterday 

Words we learned yesterday Cell membrane (or plasma membrane): The protection of a cell! Lipid: what the membrane is made up of

Words to look out for today! Nucleus Chromosomes DNA Prokaryotic Eukaryotic

The Nucleus Notes Please title your notes “The Nucleus Notes.”

What is the function of the nucleus of the cell? Controls most activities in the cell Contains the genetic information (DNA) (The Boss or Coach)

What is the structure of the nucleus of the cell? Circular structure Contains a smaller nucleolus Contains Chromosomes (DNA structure) Surrounded by a nuclear membrane

What is the nuclear membrane? Also known as nuclear envelope Membrane that surrounds and protects the nucleus Regulates what enters/leaves the nucleus

Prokaryotic vs. Eukaryotic Cells You’re almost finished! 2 more slides of notes! Please title your notes prokaryotic vs. eukaryotic cells.

Prokaryotic Cells No nucleus Some cells do not have a nucleus. These are prokaryotic cells. Simplest life forms Include bacteria Genetic material “floats” around in the cell

Eukaryotic Cells—> Have a nucleus Cells that have genetic material enclosed in a nucleus are Eukaryotic cells. Include plant and animal cells

Brain Pop http://www.brainpop.com/science/cellularlifeandgenetics/cellstructures/preview.weml First we will watch the video. Then you will do the quiz and one other activity individually. You will show me the screen when you finished! Then you will create a one-pager on the cell’s nucleus. The link is in Google Classroom! Username: palmbeach Password: palmbeach

One-Pager Use plain white paper Use colored pencils or makers Title your page “Cell’s nucleus” Use three complete written sentences that convey facts about the cell’s nucleus Fill the entire page Place five essential vocabulary words (Check your notes & the word wall) Put a ½ inch symbolic border around the edge Use three visual images Write 2 Higher level questions about the cell’s nucleus you might want to ask someone on a test if you were teaching the subject
