Smarter Balanced Assessment Changes for 2017-18 • Replaced human-scored items on CAT with machine-scored No Constructed Response questions included with CAT All Selected Response questions

Smarter Balanced Assessment Changes for 2017-18 • Eliminate all Brief Writes on CAT • Claim 2 DOK 3 will not be assessed + Claim 2 = Writing + DOK 3 = Strategic Thinking & Reasoning Example ->

Sample Question: Claim 2 DOK 3 A student is writing an editorial for the local paper about cell phones. Read his rough draft and complete the task that follows. [rough draft] Write an introduction to the editorial that establishes and introduces a clear claim that supports the use of cell phones in schools.
