Cardiovascular Fitness Concerned with the fitness of the heart the blood the blood vessels

The circulatory system The heart works as a double pump. The right hand side of the heart carries de-oxygenated blood. The left side oxygenated blood. The septum separates the two.

Where the blood goes Blood is pumped away from the heart from two routes. to the lungs to the working muscles

WHAT ARE THE FUNCTIONS OF THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM ? Circulates blood through the body Transports water, oxygen and food to cells and removes wastes from the cells. Helps fight disease Helps maintain the correct body temperature

The heart is a muscular pump The heart is a muscular pump. When it beats it pumps blood to the lungs and around the body. The amount of blood pumped can be calculated: Heart Rate x Stroke Volume = Cardiac Output. Heart rate: The number of heart beats per minute. Stroke volume: The volume of blood pumped from heart with each beat. Cardiac output: The amount of blood pumped by heart in one minute.

CARDIOVASCULAR FITNESS is the ability to exercise the entire body for long periods of time. It requires a strong heart and clear blood vessels to supply the muscles with plenty of oxygen via the blood. Cardiovascular fitness has some benefit to all sportspeople as it concerns the fitness of the most important muscle in the body- THE HEART
