Event History & Description History of Juneteenth in the U.S. Juneteenth or June 19, 1865, is considered the date when the last slaves in America were notified of their freedom in Texas, more than 2 ½ years after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Annually more than 200 cities in the United State celebrate Juneteenth. Juneteenth serves as a historical milestone reminding Americans of the triumph of the human spirit, the end of slavery and ultimately, FREEDOM. 12/6/2018

Family Day – Saturday, June 19 Festival at Burcham Park Objective: To provide an entertaining day of family fun in downtown Lawrence. Carnival will include food, art/gifts and information vendors, games (moonwalk) and music. Goal of 30 vendors. Location – Burcham Park Needs Vendors for carnival ($100-$250 Fees) Confirmed vendors to date: Grandaddys BBQ; DaShop; Flora Taylor; HyVee; Sertoma Club 12/6/2018
