Classroom conversation 4/12 Suggestions Training tape by Hebert on SAAC home page, CTL link: General Education teaching tools – need a portal/site for a one-stop shop for useful teaching tools Can we include training tools like this for all Gen Ed abilities? Use of video, watch and correct; can we build in practice (out of class)? Instructor needs to facilitate. Can be for all Gen Ed, a “suggestions” and “potential resources”. Students can use rubric to score each other? Why is it important for them to have this skill? Various professions can weigh in. Get some of the alumni to participate? Something like a Ted Talk!

Suggestions What about comm help for out of class? We give them help in writing and math, why not comm? Teachers could make this a requirement before performing in class. When it’s done during the semester is important Big issues with reliability; why not have pre-test and post-test groups? Will lead to more reliability. Importance of CPD’s involvement; lots of potential comparison points Can they incorporate more gen ed ability assessments? Can assessments combine Gen Ed abilities? Like to see comparisons between dev ed and 100 level Full-time vs. part-time; day vs. evening (primary time of attendance)

Suggestions Ethnicity/cultural break down Again, importance of Dev Ed vs. 100 level classes to get a feel for retention challenges CATS Website: include “How to get OPIE data” video How to write CATS video
