Cloudy with a chance of meatballs Fallow Class Topic: Cloudy with a chance of meatballs MUSIC Charanga music, music for different weathers ~ e.g. thunderstorm, ice, wind. MATHS SCIENCE Seasons ~ Winter. Investigate ice and snow ~ create ice mountains, freeze different objects in ice cubes, make our own snow for a snowy village. Investigate other types of weather ~ rain, wind Animals ~ mammals, what is special about Arctic animals? ART Winter art ~ painting & printing winter trees, ice hangings, arctic animal chalk drawings/ collage pictures. Paint pictures of ourselves in winter clothes. Easter/spring art ~ investigating colour and texture compared with our winter art work. THE WORLD What is it like to live in a cold place? Investigate the Arctic ~ animals, clothes, homes. Set up a weather station for measuring different types of weather in our outdoor area. What can we use to measure weather? (weather vane, rain catchers, wind sock). Weather vocabulary. Compass points, simple mapping, Beebot maps. RE/PSHE Christian value ~ courage, RE – Was it always easy for Jesus to show friendship?and Easter PSHE – Looking forward. Learning about money and how to use it. PE Real PE ~ developing core skills ~ balance, directions and swimming. ENGLISH Story ~ Rosie’s Hat, Information texts about Winter and Artic animals, Poetry about the Winter season. Collecting weather vocabulary for weather reporting/forecasting. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs ~ Compare DVD with the text. Place value, ½ , ¼ of shapes and amounts, money, addition and subtraction, measures ~ length & weight. Multiplication. Days of the week/months of the year as related to weather forecasts. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs ~ use Venn diagrams to compare book weather and real weather.
