Abstract How much should we test in regression – always a challenge! As the product gets enriched with new features/enhancements, the functional test cases also keeps on adding to the existing test catalog. Risk Based Layered Regression Test Strategy(RBT) thus comes as an aid for this problem statement. It uses risk based approach to prioritize tests during regression test execution. RBT template calculates risk based on factors like Impact for Customer, Criticality, Security, Defect Containment etc. As all the critical functions of the application gets tested, it improves the overall quality of the product.

RBT provides two methods to access the risk value: Option 1. Using a calculation schema via defined KPIs Option 2. Direct assertion of an impact and probability factor
