Presentation transcript:

Change in state – conversion from one physical form to another

Temperature: measures speed of the particles movement More thermal energy = Temp increases = particles move faster = change in state

Melting – from solid to liquid

Melting point – temp at which a solid melts Ex. Water: 0 C or 32 F

Freezing – from liquid to solid

Freezing point – temp. at which a liquid freezes Ex. Water: 0 C 32 F

Vaporization – change from liquid to a gas 1. Boiling - occurs throughout the liquid Evaporation – occurs at the surface of the liquid

Boiling

Evaporation

Condensation- gas to a liquid

Sublimation – changing from a solid to a gas. Deposition Sublimation Sublimation Deposition Deposition Sublimation

Dry Ice

Deposition – changing from gas to solid. Snow – vapor to solid snow flakes Cirrus clouds – vapor to solid ice crystals
