A Survey of the Book of Acts: The First Thirty Years of the Wake Missionary Baptist Association Associate Minister’s Class July 21, 2015 A Survey of the Book of Acts: The First Thirty Years of the Church of Jesus Christ

A careful study of Acts presents to us a clear picture of the ancient church, so that we can better understand the purpose, plan, and function of the modern church.

Evangelistic Pedagogical Apologetic Biographical

The Purpose of Acts: To Give An Accurate Account Of The Birth And Growth Of The Early Church.

Two-Part Division Of Acts Chapters 1-12 (Peter) Chapters 13-28 (Paul) Three-Part Division Chapters 1-7 (Jerusalem) Chapters 8-12 (Judea and Samaria) Chapters 13-28 (Other Parts of the Roman Empire)

They were to be EMPOWERED by the Holy Spirit. They were to be WITNESSES of the person, life, ministry, miracles, sacrifice, resurrection, and salvation of Jesus Christ.

Acts 2:11 “…we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.”

Sadducees The Sadducees were the white-collar, upper class religious group of society. Comprised of aristocrats, the Sadducees were politically involved among the wealthy. To them, only written law was authoritative, not oral tradition (law). They repudiated the doctrines of resurrection, the existence of angels, and a personal Messiah.

Auxiliaries/Ministries become entities within themselves, often becoming “churches” within the church!
