Image Resolution DPI = Dots Per Inch Windows default DPI is 96 DPI If you scan a photograph at 96 DPI, the scanned image will be roughly the same dimensions as the original (if viewed at 100% zoom) If you scan at higher DPI, the scanned image will be larger than the original Scanner can scan at 75, 150, 200 and 300 DPI

Image Formats PDF (Portable Document Format) Secure PDF For text documents. Secure PDF Encrypted – asks for a password TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) Scanner output is LZW compressed – no quality loss ~10X larger file than JPEG Designed for printing JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) Compressed file type – some quality loss Most common XPS (XML Paper Specification) Like a PDF
