New Labour’s Educational Policies

Learning Objectives To explain which perspectives on education New Labour was influenced by. To explain how New Labour policies improved equality of opportunity. To evaluate New Labour policies.

New Labour’s Aims Reducing inequality Promoting diversity and choice Which two perspectives on education do these aims reflect?

New Labour’s Policies Read through the New Labour’s Educational Policies handout and highlight the key points. Produce two spider diagrams. One needs to show which of New Labour’s policies reflect the social democratic view and the other needs to show which policies reflect the New Right view.

Evaluation Are there any studies that you have used to evaluate Conservative policies that could be used to evaluate New Labour’s policies?
