The 1980’s Historical photographs

‘Tank man’ The most iconic image of the Tiananmen Square massacre, this picture depicts the important “unknown rebel” standing in front of the tanks that threatened a peaceful protest in China. Jeff Widener snapped this image. However nobody actually know the fate of this man, some believe him to be shot or ran over. However from footage you can see that he in fact climbed up onto the tank to see if he could open the hatch and than a number of seconds later jumped down again.

Reagan assassination attempted This photo was taken on the 30th or march 1981 when John Hinckley Jr. opened fire on Reagan and three others at the Washington Hilton Hotel in D.C. Reagan only realised he had been shot when he coughed up blood and had realised his lung was punctured. In order to protect him the body guards threw him into the limousine. The photographic coverage of this event by Ron Edmonds of the Associated Press was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for news photography.
