Question of the Day: Tell at least 3 ways the island of Curacao is different from Anderson, SC ?

Monday How does Phillip Enright determine how many German submarines are threatening Curacao? (How many are there and how does he know?) What government is presently over the island of Curacao? (Not the submarines)

Tuesday Create a CAUSE and EFFECT chart by filling in the 5 missing blanks. CAUSE EFFECT There is a war going on. Phillip’s mom doesn’t feel safe. ______________________ The islanders are running out of food. There is an oil refinery on the island. ________________________ _________________________ Phillip doesn’t want to leave the island. _________________________ ________________________________

WEDNESDAY Find context clues for the following word (write the context clue and your definition based on the context clue): Lulled (pg. 34) On page 45 Timothy tells Philip a story about a man in Barbados. Why does he tell this story? Do you think it’s true? Why or why not?

Thursday What does the word “motah” mean? Pg. 47 Based on what Timothy says about the cat (pg. 50) what characteristic can you give Timothy? (As you read Chapter 6, take notes on the layout of the island. You will need this information later)

Friday Compare Timothy’s reaction to Phillip falling overboard with Mrs. Enright’s reaction in Chapter 1.
