Learning and Retaining Spanish Srta. Cloherty

How should I study my Spanish in a way that I will actually remember it?

Have a schedule. Plan out what you would like to accomplish.

Mix it up! Study using flashcards one night and Quizlet the next night.

Change the location of where you study Change the location of where you study. Use 75 watt lightbulbs for lighting. Your study environment should be cool rather than warm.

Re-teach the material you’ve learned to a friend or family member.

Take breaks.

Once your break is over, get back to work! Don’t get distracted.

Change your routine. Type your notes. Write out your notes Change your routine. Type your notes. Write out your notes. Recite vocabulary in the shower. Study with a friend.

Space out your studying. Do not wait until the last night.

Practice your Spanish for at least 15 minutes a night.

Be curious and ask questions about what you’re learning and studying.

Tell Srta. C. what interests you Tell Srta. C. what interests you. She will adjust assignments and projects to your own interests.

Why? She truly cares about you and your success.

It’s important for you to make connections and understand for yourself how Spanish is relevant to your own life.

“Interest effectively turbocharges our thinking “Interest effectively turbocharges our thinking. When we’re interested in what we’re learning, we pay closer attention; we process the information more efficiently. When we’re interested in a task, we work harder and persist longer” (Paul, 2013).

I look forward to working with you all: the future innovators and leaders of tomorrow.

Let’s make learning fun together!
