This phrase is used TEN times in Genesis 1 – showing us the 10 Commandments given to nature. All are obeyed!

Chapter 1 reveals the incredible fact that when God says something, it is DONE. His Word becomes reality!

The Spirit MOVES, God’s Word is SPOKEN, bringing God’s LIGHT

Example: The INCARNATION The Spirit moved – Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. Then Light was manifest. Luke 2:9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. Luke 2:32 a light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.   John 1:9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
 John 12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

Psalm 18:9 He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet. Psalm 74:16 The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.

KEY: This light is in CONTRAST to the darkness that exists on the face of the deep in vs 2!

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word… Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.   1 John 1: 5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

Key: God IS LIGHT! …so, consider what shall be in the New Jerusalem… Ecclesiastes 3:15 That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past. Rev 22:5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever. James 1:17  Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. 


Romans 3:23 for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;  Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. 


God gives His APPROVAL upon LIGHT. Luke 3:22  and the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. 


(vs. 4) “And God DIVIDED the light from the darkness” Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.  Ephesians 2:4-6 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6 and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

1 Peter 2:16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.  Galatians 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
