Gender explanations

Homework over Easter Make notes on the following: Media and cultural explanations Atypical gender development Complete Paper 3 under timed conditions Revise for upcoming exams Wednesday: activities based on task today/ dealing with offender behaviour essay (30 minutes)

Get yourself in to groups of 4 Give yourselves a number between 1-4 Kohlberg's theory of gender development (cognitive) Gender schema theory (cognitive) Psychodynamic explanation Social learning explanation You have 15 minutes to look over the hand out. Your task is to teach that explanation of gender development to the rest of your group. Make sure you are able to describe the explanation, explain research to support/refute and evaluate the explanation to share with your group. You will then collectively write a group essay for one particular strategy based on the activity retail therapy.

Exam question (16 marks) Describe and evaluate Kohlberg’s explanation of gender development. Describe and evaluate the gender schema theory of gender development. Describe and evaluate Freud’s psychoanalytic explanation of gender development. As part of your evaluation you should refer to biological explanations of gender development. Discuss biological and social learning explanations of gender development. Refer to evidence in your answer. Discuss cognitive explanations of gender development
