The Leica Mount for a CP 4500 IMPORTANT NOTES Nothing in this presentation is drawn to scale If your eyepiece is narrower in diameter than my 20-60 (about 50mm) this gadget may need extra felt (see step 8) If your eyepiece is wider in diameter the principle will remain the same, but you will need different sized PVC pieces. You can use the scope, but not the zoom, using this set up.

The Tube

Cap Piece

Other Bits 4 Small (about 4G or 2.5mm) 10-12mm self tapping screws 28-37 step up ring 1 piece of sticky backed felt. The type you stick under vases, etc to stop them scratching furniture A small sanding disc or drum is very useful.

First Step Cut the top off the Cap This leaves a hole in the centre of the cap piece that is perfectly centred and very close to the size required to fit the camera lens in 2. Smooth down the top of the cap (I used a sanding disc on my drill to do this)

Second Step Smooth down the rims of the tube with a piece of sandpaper Sand down the exterior of the tube to make it a tight fit inside the cap piece. It needs to be a tight fit but one that can separated by hand (I used a sanding disc on my drill to do this)

Third Step Sand or file the hole in the cap piece so that the camera lens will fit in with about 1.5 mm free all round The picture shows the centre hole with the step up ring already mounted but you get the idea. If the hole is too large it is difficult to attach the step up ring. I used a small model making sanding drum on my drill to do this

Fourth Step Rebate a small ledge around the hole on the inside of the cap piece. I used a small sanding drum to do this. This is done to make the ring sit more securely and to raise it’s bottom edge up from the lens. Don’t take too much away. It only needs to be 2 mm at the most I cannot show a photo of this phase.

Fifth Step Drill 4 x 3mm holes into the angles of the steup up ring. Drill Here Drill Here Drill 4 x 3mm holes into the angles of the steup up ring. Make sure the holes are drilled at an angle so the screws will go into the PVC at an angle Hold the step up ring in place and drill 1mm guide holes into the cap piece Screw the step up ring to the cap piece.

Sixth Step Grind down the tops of the screws inside the cap piece 2. Grind down any pointy bits from the screws that poked through I used a small grinding wheel on my Dremel

Seventh Step Use a small brush and vacuum to clean away all PVC and metal dust

Eighth Step Cut a strip of felt about 1cm wide and 6 cm long. Stick it along the inside of the tub and fold back over the outside. This provides the grip when you slide the tube over the eyepiece This is now the BOTTOM of the tube

Ninth Step Camera Eyepiece Cap Tube Felt Slide the tube over the scope eyepiece. With the felt in pl;ace in should be a tight fit,but you should be able to remove the tube easily. Attach the cap piece to the camera Slide the cap over the tube. Make sure the cap is on as far as it can go. If the outside of the tube has been sanded as per step 2 the cap should be hard against the tube.
