Involvement of the TB-affected community is still an unexplored resource in TB control How can we change this? Efforts to be supported by the Stop TB Partnership and Norwegian Association of Heart & Lung Patients

Focal point at the Stop TB partnership secretariat Seconded by LHL – more impact within the partnership Goal: Affected community play a role in design, planning and implementation of TB services – Lead to being spokespersons at all levels My role: Play a catalytic role and initiating activities that can lead to increased empowerment, involvement and mobilization Be a facilitator and coordinator for initiatives and activities proposed by partners Raise the issue of involvement of the affected community within the established, professional TB community

What is Needed? Capacity building within the TB affected community Document good practice of patient involvement from the field Develop a sustainable network of different partners of the affected community Behavioural change among HWs, capacity building Promote Operational research

TB Patient Empowerment, Involvement and Mobilization Where we are to day (A1/A2 ) and where we want to be in 10 years (B1/B2) A-1 → B-1 TB Patient Experts - Rep. TB affected community has a voice - Global level Patient TB Experts - Rep. Clinical and political knowledge to have a role in the established TB community National and Global level Activities to reach the goal (1) - Increase participation and representation Capacity Building TB Patient Empowerment, Involvement and Mobilization Activities to reach the goal (2) Short term Long Term - Documentation of experiences - Training in medical/nurses - Development tools for empowerment and involvement school - Training of identified TB patients/ex patients - Training of HWs in field - Operational research Few TB patients/ex patients are partner and a resource in TB services Few and scattered initiatives of involvement of TB patients/ex patients in TB services TB patients/ex patients are a resource and important partner in TB services Have a role in design, planning and implementation of TB services at all levels A-2 → B-2
