CONNECTED CHURCH PAG

From miserable orphan to successful businessman October 2016

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given? Notes to leader: Use this question as a way to get people engaged in the update. Ask people to talk to the person next to them, and then feedback to you.

Sam became an orphan as a teenager, and has struggled ever since Sam became an orphan as a teenager, and has struggled ever since. He never finished school because he couldn’t afford the fees. He and his wife Nancy married young, and always found life difficult.

Sometimes they would only eat once a day because they couldn’t grow enough on their small farm. Then one day they started the PEP Bible studies with their church.

The bible study on Elisha and the widow’s oil opened Sam’s eyes. He began to see all the resources that God had given him, like fertile land and chickens to raise. He started breeding chickens to sell. Notes to leader: Sam used the profits from selling chickens to start trading goats until finally he made enough to start trading cows! He also saved money to buy four bulls which can be used for ploughing. The family, who were living very close to the poverty line, now have a comfortable income from a strong business. The photo is of Sam with their maize crop, which has increased massively since PEP training!

‘I used to think ‘I am a poor orphan and can’t afford to build a house’ but thanks to PEP, I am saving to begin building one next year.’ Top photo: Sam, Nancy and their two children Bottom photo: Sam and their pastor, who led them through PEP Sam Okello

PRAYER Thank God for the transformation in Sam’s life Ask God to continue blessing his family

We would love your church to pray for Sam and his family regularly. The next slide is a set postcards with their story on them: Print them out Cut them up Give to people to take home
