ECEN 460 Power System Operation and Control Lecture 19: Market Demo and Review Adam Birchfield Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering Texas A&M University abirchfield@tamu.edu Material gratefully adapted with permission from slides by Prof. Tom Overbye.

Lab 8 demonstration For Lab 8 we are simulating power system markets You will play as a generator owner and bid in competition with other students

Announcements Lab 8 this week 11/2, 11/5, 11/6 Quizzes most Thursdays No lab 11/9, 11/12, 11/13 Quizzes most Thursdays Exam 2 is November 15 One new 8.5”x11” note sheet is allowed, in addition to the note sheet from the last exam

Exam 2 is November 15 Exam 2 covers any material through today’s lecture Focus on what came after material for Exam 1 (Lectures 10 to 19) Be able to do the homework and quiz problems Study lecture notes, in-class examples, and book reading assignments (Chapter 6) Note that the power flow formulation in the book is slightly different from the slides. We are using the approach given in the slides.

Exam 2 main topics Building a y-bus matrix Power balance equations Gauss-Siedel and Newton-Raphson methods Power flow problem formulation and solution Sensitivities, approximations, contingencies Economic dispatch OPF, SCOPF, and LMPs Electricity markets
