The Plateau Indians Lesson 7

The plateau region is in present-day Idaho.

The Plateau Indians ate a lot of gathered food like berries. They also hunted and some planted. Many tools in the plateau region were made from stone.

The Nez Perce Tribe The Nez Perce lived in lodges made from wood/mud or huts. They lived by the season and not the month since they planted a lot of their food. Nez Perce hunted meat and used the hide for clothes. A lot of feathers were used for headdresses and headbands.

The Nez Perce believed in spirits called weyekins. Young men around age 12 were sent out into the wilderness to get a spiritual message from their weyekins.
