American Counterculture As the 1960s edged its way through, it and the Vietnam war brought a new cultural form in existence. Interpretations of the American dream changed Vietnam War served as the catalyst for the counterculture movement where young people openly questioned the status quo Most of this counterculture fought for things already present such as poverty, racial problems, and nonviolent protests.
