Museums in County Durham 2015/16 Accreditation – 12 museums in the Accreditation scheme, the National Standard for museums. Visits – 946,051 visits to museums in 2015/16. Economic impact – visits to museums helped contribute £12.7M to the local economy. Inspiring learning – 48,714 participants in learning sessions delivered by museums. Community engagement – 36,452 people engaged through outreach work and activities. Volunteering – 692 volunteers contributed 72,572 hours, worth £518,371 to museums and their surrounding communities. Jobs – 439 people employed by museums in the county. Beamish Museum, near Stanley Figures based on data from 70% of Accredited museums in County Durham.
