Make it safe!

Preserve the Scene! Section 55 of HSWA requires that after a notifiable event: Site is not disturbed until authorised by an inspector (unless rescuing or making safe) Failure to do so: Personal fine up to $10k Company fine up to $50k

CAA HSU Response HSU not an emergency response unit We respond to notifiable events (most) Identify duty holders – PCBU, Officers, Workers etc Identify relevant duties that were owed Look for systematic approach and effectiveness

CAA HSU Response Look at risk management – is risk managed to as low as reasonably practicable? Would a reasonable person have done more? Have the duties required by the HSW Act been met? What is the most appropriate action to rectify?

Notifiable Event Arising from work Death (s25) Injury or illness (s23) Incident (s24)

What is a notifiable incident? Unplanned or uncontrolled AND In relation to a workplace AND Exposes any person to serious risk of injury or illness AND Came from an immediate or imminent exposure to a hazard
