Agenda VII. Old Business A. Personnel Committee Motion on NTT

Motion Whereas, the Section 310.035 of the Collected Rules and Regulations (CRR) describes the hiring, promotion, and termination processes for the Non-Tenure Track (NTT) Faculty. Whereas, the hiring and promotion processes of the NTT Faculty are as lengthy, meticulous, and laborious as the same processes for the Tenured or Tenure-Track Faculty. Whereas, the termination process of the NTT Faculty is short, indifferent, and can be sudden. To be resolved that the Faculty Senate of the Missouri University of Science and Technology recommends the proposed changes in Section 310.035 of the CRR to bring a balanced approach by distinguishing the role of different types of faculty, by simplifying the hiring and the promotion processes of the NTT Faculty, and by requiring an explanation for the termination of NTT Faculty. To be further resolved that the proposed changes are to be presented at the next meeting of the Intercampus Faculty Council for further consideration by all the other campuses’ faculty.

C. Performance of NTT Faculty Unlike tenured and tenure-track faculty, whose performance is evaluated based on their contribution to research, teaching, and service, the performance of NTT faculty should be evaluated on the primary responsibility of the NTT faculty position as well as the professional activities related to that primary responsibility.
