Short Answer – Short Answer IDs are, as the name suggests, short answers- usually a few sentences. You do not need to be detailed on these. There are 5 short answers worth 6 points each. Name the four major Native American civilizations around at European contact that were discussed in class. How advanced were they compared to the Europeans? Give six characteristics of Puritan belief Briefly discuss why indentured servitude failed in Virginia What was the Enlightenment and how did it affect the American Revolution The problems of the British Empire after the French and Indian War and King George III’s solutions

Explanatory IDs – The Explanatory IDs are essays Explanatory IDs – The Explanatory IDs are essays. You need to be detailed and specific. They are worth 50 points (half your exam score). You will choose ONE of the two options. Explain the creation and significance of the race-based, slave society in Virginia during the Colonial Period. Explain how it started and changed over time. Briefly discuss why a slave society did not develop in New England. Finally, and most importantly, discuss what YOU think is the significance and legacy of the Virginia slave society in American History Discuss the concept of Colonial unity and disunity up to the American Revolution. Were the colonies united during this time? Why or why not? Finally, and most importantly, explain why YOU think the colonies did come together (to some extent) against the British Empire during the American Revolution.
