Unit 2: The Role of Family

A History of Family The “Family” as a unit has changed over the years. Extended family lived closer to immediate family until the Industrial Revolution. The automobile and increase in industrialism changed the idea of family.

The role of the Automobile Industrialization led to changing gender roles within the family structure. The automobile would increase mobility, and extended families would begin moving further apart. Post-War would see a return to conformity for a short period. 1960s and change. 1970s and divorce. Modern Day, Modern Family.
