WHAT IS THE SUN? The Sun is the star centre of the solar system. It consists of hot plasma and magnetic fields. The sun consists of hydrogen and helium although the sun also carries heavier elements such as oxygen, carbon, neon and iron.

S u n p o t s Sunspots are temporary phenomena on the photosphere of the sun. They appear visibly as dark spots. Sun spots are caused my intense magnetic activity. Sun spots appear in pairs and have the opposite magnetic poles. They have a high temperature and the temperature increases because of the colour.
