Presentation transcript:

Landscape Regions

Landscapes Features of Earth’s surface at the interfaces between the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and the top of the lithosphere. Characteristics: Slope of land, shape of features, stream drainage patterns, stream slope, soil properties, evidences of human occupation.

Mountain, Plateau, and Lowland (Plain) Landscape regions are identified based on elevation and bedrock structure. Mountain, Plateau, and Lowland (Plain)

Mountain An area of high elevation, usually has regions of steep gradient, and has a distorted bedrock structure.

Plateau An area of high elevation, horizontal bedrock structure, more level gradient.

An area of low elevation, level surface. Lowland (Plain) An area of low elevation, level surface.

Causes of Different Landscape Regions 1. Bedrock composition 2. Weathering 3. Erosion
