Why do students go to school? (discuss) There was a Philosopher – he would ask questions to get them to explore the world His life ended sadly

Half of the city mourned today as the late philosopher Socrates died by his own hand. Socrates was an independent thinker, always asking his students to question the world around them. He inspired many people to think for themselves. He proposed that there was one good, knowledge and one evil, ignorance. He believed that the human race could progress only if people kept to the law and did as they should for everyones benefit. Many Athenians thought it was dangerous for him to encourage people to question their religious beliefs. His sentence for his actions was to drink the poisonous hemlock which ended his life. He is survived by his famous pupil Plato who kept a record of his discussions.

Was Socrates the only great teacher that Ancient Greece had? Have you had more than one good teacher?

Today, we will imagine traveling back in time. Lets meet Plato and Aristotle.

I was one of the most elegant writers of all time I wrote the book The Republic about justice I founded a school called the Academy and taught many students, including Aristotle I was the first to use philosophy of love or knowledge I said The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future life.

I am a great thinker of Ancient Greece I taught Alexander the Great I wrote about astronomy, natural history, music, politics, and philosophy. I invented the method of thinking called logic. I always asked important questions such as, What are the best ways for people to live so that they get along with each other? I appreciated and admired my teacher, Plato

Socrates taught Plato, not the clay, we mean the guy He taught people to question things and ask each other why. But the people didnt like it, and they sentenced him to die. He drank some hemlock tea. Question, question, Mr. Socrates! And dont serve tea to me! ~go to next page for 2 nd verse~

Plato taught Aristotle all the good things that he knew! He opened the Academy to teach whats good and true. He taught about proper government and immortality! I wish he could teach me! Write on, write on, Mr. Plato! You helped preserve Socrates! ~go to next page for 3rd verse~

Aristotle was the teacher of Alexander the Great. He wrote the first encyclopedia when B.C. was the date. Plato was his teacher, he said, get an education Cause you wont be supported by the next generation! Discover, discover, Aristotle! You seek knowledge about so many things! ~The end~
