Presentation transcript:

Friday 10/6/17 Notebook Entry: Find your Science of Boat Design Notes in your spiral. Pick two pieces of information that you think are important scientific knowledge to use when telling the gatekeeper about the best boat design to use. Describe the two pieces of information for your notebook entry.

Thermometer Pre-Test Pre-test for our next unit. Please answer only on the left hand side of the page. Turn in your answer when you are finished.

Data Analysis Claim: Evidence: Reasoning: While watching the commercial write down in your spiral notebook the girls claim, evidence, and reasoning. Audi car commercial (click on claims evidence reasoning graphic).

Example of a Scientific Explanation

A faster bat swing produces a faster batted ball speed. Testable Question: How does the speed of the bat swing affect the speed at which the ball travels after it has been hit?   Claim Evidence A faster bat swing produces a faster batted ball speed. Doubling the swing speed of the bat results in an increased ball speed of almost 22mph Reasoning: The faster an object is moving the more force it will have when it hits another object.

Build a Boat C.E.R. Testable Question: What are the best design features that will help a boat float while carrying additional weight? Claim:

Build a Boat C.E.R. Evidence: Find data that supports your claim. Use your boat records or solution brief presentation notes. Describe the data (observations and measurements). Reasoning: Find the scientific knowledge that ties your claim and evidence together. Use your Science of Boat Design Notes. You should include both density and buoyant force in your reasoning. When you finish, staple the CER page to the other pages and turn in all 3 pages together. If you are not done you will need to take your spiral and all 3 pages. Finish it for homework and BRING ALL 3 PAGES back to turn in together on Monday.
